Unit 2 - Activity 1 (continued) - Acronyms!

Reflection: So many acronyms!

With all these acronyms the "Fundamentals for Teaching ESL" course is starting to feel like the learning another language in itself!

Within the first few reading assignments the following are a sample of what has appeared:

ESL, L1, L2, ELF, TESOL, EFL, NEST, NNEST, LSP, BICS, CALP, IEP, ESP, EAP

(I'm sure I've missed a few).

A course peer (thanks Selena!) shared the following hyperlink to the "Internet TESL Journal" on acronyms.

http://iteslj.org/acronyms.html

It is broken down into categories of:

  1. most frequently used (with some associations/orgs also listed)
  2. commonly used
  3. others related to TESL
