Discovery: youtube video about language acquisition *excellent*

A Youtube video by Stephen Krashen on Language Acquisition was presented in our ESL course and it's excellent! The hyperlink is:

I strongly agree with Stephen Krashen's youtube video on Language Acquisition - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiTsduRreug. While I believe learning can take place outside of the "comprehensive input" theory Krashen describes - it simply isn't as efficient. He makes a good case for the affective filter hypothesis. If students are motivated, have self-esteem, and low anxiety - I believe they generally can learn better - but especially so with language learning.
A personal experience that ties in the affective filter is related to some English language conversation classes where: I strive to make the learning fun - upbeat and animated to motivate; I make concerted efforts to value the students and their experiences to promote self esteem; and I do/say subtle things to create a safe discussion environment with balanced disclosure to promote trust and reduce anxiety. The interesting outcome is a more impactful learning experience because each transaction is focused on making the inputs comprehensive or with a "meaningful message". At the end of our the conversation sessions, I've sometimes discovered students have learned without realizing they've learned. The learning wasn't necessarily easy - but easier. There's something to this...and the approach can keep them coming back for more!
Thanks for the video Tatiana - it's one I'm keeping for my ePortfolio.
