Unit 9 - Activity 3: Lesson Plan - making learning fun

Lesson Plan: Making Learning Fun (Recommended Time: 60 min)

In this activity, you will draft your fourth lesson plan. This time, you will work individually and will focus on incorporating the elements of digital literacy and technology in your lesson plan. There are two options on how to proceed.

Option 1
You can use any of the lesson plans you have developed before, review them, and identify how at least one of the outcomes can be enhanced by using technology. Also, review the activities in the lesson plan and identify how technology may be used to enhance learner experience with each activity. Think of how you could add an element of fun to your lesson (e.g., game, competition).

Option 2
You can develop a new lesson plan that has at least one of the outcomes focused on digital literacy and aim to incorporate digital technology throughout the lesson to enhance language learning. One of the activities should have a fun element, such as a game or competition.
As a warm up, think about your class (real or potential) and identify what technology learners may already have and use in their daily lives. Make a list of the devices that learners bring to class and think of how each of them can be used to develop each of the four language skills (i.e., Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing).
Also, think about what having fun in learning means to you (e.g., working on a creative project or playing a competitive game). List as many fun activities as you can think of and complete the brainstorming diagram below. Share your ideas on the discussion forum.
While completing this exercise, you may realize that fun learning may mean different things for different people. You may also notice that technology can be very useful in creating opportunities for learning to be fun.
